Paul Van Zyl:

"Michael George ignores the call of surrender. He is the promise of all possibilities. He is the spirit between hope and uncertainty. He is a human monument who shouts to all who will hear and even to those who won't. He gives full measure of his wisdom with nothing left out. He has quietly provided me a firm foundation for personal health and physical fitness. He is an incredible trainer, a magnificent person and a force of nature in the fitness world."

Interview with Trainer Michael George

by Krystal Houghton

Michael George knows fitness; he gives lectures, he writes on the topic, and his clients give him nothing but glowing reviews. Michael’s inspirational approach to fitness combines both physical and the mental workouts to take care of the body. Michael George understands what motivates people; he puts emphasis on lifelong fitness, not fads diets or infomercial equipment. And the results speak for themselves. Celebs like Reese Witherspoon and Christian Slater credit their ultra-hot bods to Michael’s training, and Michael himself is a real life He-man. His new book, “Body Express Makeover” gives detailed information to the rest of us on how to achieve dramatic and lasting fitness results. Michael took time out of his busy schedule to give us the skinny on how to keep off the fat.

Are carbs really the enemy?

No, carbs are not the enemy. It’s true that you want to get most of your carbs from low glycemic to moderate glycemic carbohydrate sources, but the non-regulation of insulin is the primary issue when it comes to weight loss and management. Two keys to weight loss are eating 4-6 small meals or snacks daily and having a little protein with each and every meal to curb insulin spikes. The 4 principles to eating healthy are in my book in Chapter Four under Fat Blasting Nutrition.

Any exercise tips for workaholics with little time to spare? Utilizing my total body 10, 20, and 30 minute multi-muscle group exercise routines are the key to this problem. That, along with planning your workouts, shopping days, and preparing meals ahead of time. Time is the number 1 obstacle, planning is the number 1 solution.

Mohamed F. El-Hewie:

No other book I have read would rise to the level of this one in regard to the integral combination of exercises. All exercises described in this book work on more than one group of muscles. The thighs are worked out with the biceps, shoulders, and back, the chest with abdominals and triceps, and so on, in upbeat and innovative combination that enhances function and reduces the chance of muscular imbalance. It is not about isolation strengthening. It is mainly coordinated and compound exercising that make this book a real addition to strength training. You will also notice the upbeat happy facial expressions of the two people photographed performing the exercises. In addition, all the exercises are executed in perfect posture and gait.

Sure, they name-drop, but they'll make you feel the burn:

Excerpt by Craig Sholtz
Washington Post

"Body Express Makeover: Trim and Sculpt Your Body in Less Than Six Weeks," by Michael George.

Client names shamelessly dropped: Meg Ryan, Reese Witherspoon, Tobey Maguire, Christian Slater.

Credentials cited: Certifications by American Council on Exercise and National Assn. of Sports Medicine; martialartist devoted to East-West integration; Spokesman for Nike.

The gimmick: Three workouts mix weight training, calisthenics and aerobics with yoga and Pilates-derived exercises into very challenging but doable workouts.

Observations: Equivalent exercises tailored differently for men and women. Once learned, the exercises are the best of the bunch in the books reviewed. The routines can almost fit into the time allotted, though advanced workouts require three sets of 20 reps of 10 exercises. Clear instructions and photos; varied, challenging and effective exercises.

Best for: Moderately fit exercisers looking for a well-scripted, challenging, realistic program that will deliver results for far more than six weeks.

Ron Shostack:

"I'm pleased to write this testimonial for someone so deserving. Michael is a terrific motivator, passionate about my health and dedicated to meeting my goals of weight loss and increased stamina. I recommend him often!"

Dara Sorkin, Manhattan Beach:

“Michael George’s plan works! I followed his exercise program and diet plan and lost 20 pounds, which was my goal. My cholesterol also went down nearly 100 points. This is not just something that is temporary, but he helped me make a lifestyle change. If I can do this, anybody can. I don’t love exercising, but working out with Michael was challenging and fun. Thanks so much.”

Corazon de Vida Foundation:

Dear Michael,

Hungry children are eating today because of you! Thank you so very much for your generous donation of auction items of three training session gift certificates. Your donation will not only help support the orphans in such desperate need in Baja, it will add great success to our child sponsorship dinner and it's auction. Cash and in-kind donations are also tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.

Each gift goes such a long way towards helping us put food on the tables of the orphanages we serve - food that would be missing without your help. I know this gift is a commitment of your time, as well as your resources, so we are doubly thankful.

Very Best Regards,

Jim McAleer

Thank You, Michael:

I want to thank Michael George and his support staff for helping me turn my life around. Michael's book was finally the right motivation for me to get in shape. I'm not 100% where I want to be but I've made tremendous progress. I connected with the book because as a scientist it held true to me. I also found Michael's description of his own habits and adopting a healthy lifestyle. I would like to remain anonymous and want my identity confidential. But this does not lessen my graditude for your help. Please keep up the great work.

Donna Coulter:

I finished reading Body Express Makeover last night. I hadn't mentioned that I picked up a copy because I wanted to wait and see what my opinion was. Because I also write and I am very particular about reading material, I may not have brought up the fact that I had read it if I wasn't enthusiastic about the material.

That being said, I am very, very impressed. Good job.

Stephanie Reynolds:

"This is the best idea, double the result half the time! So well written, it's great for everyone, from the beginner to the old timer, looking to mix things up. It's written in such a positive way, you can feel your support as you read."

Publishers Weekly Reviews 4/25:

Exercise your fat away in 10 minutes a day? See real results in six weeks or less? Anyone who's plugged into the popular culture will no doubt have heard similar claims, both on TV programs like the Food Network's Weighing In and from the likes of Jorge Cruise, who, like George, grew up in a household of immigrants, struggled with his weight and is now a fitness guru. George's plan is similar to Cruise's eight-minutes-a-day prescription: both incorporate strength-training exercises, nutritional advice and an overall lifestyle change. Hollywood fitness trainer George, however, has a Hollywood r?sum? (he has trained stars Meg Ryan and Tobey Maguire), and his martial arts background shines through in his fitness program. Emphasizing the importance of being centered and having balance, George lays out 2-in-1 workout routines designed to help burn fat and tone the whole body. These exercises are broken down into optional 10-, 20- and 30-minute routines (complete with written descriptions and demonstrative photos), and are followed by a combination of Western- and yoga-style stretching techniques. All in all, this accessible, upbeat guide, which allows readers to personalize an age-appropriate program that will fit into the busiest of schedules, should prove useful to those who are committed to making a lifestyle change.
